The 2017 season ends with mid-table respectability for the 1st and 2nd teams and a promotion to Div 2 of the Cotswold Hills League for the 3rds. In their final games, the 2nds were rained off at home and the 1st travelled to relegation threatened Kidderminster.
Desperate for a win to have any chance of avoiding relegation Kidderminster won the toss and elected to bowl. We lost Andy Umeed and Barrie Forester-Smith to be 42-2 but then stands of 115 by Dave Ball and Aqeel Ahmad (59) and 64 by Baller & Ali Ebad (42) saw the score to 231-4. Dave then departed for 69 and contributions from Joe Dodd (22*) and Mark Swanick (24) saw the 50 over total to a competitive 283-7.
In response, Kidderminster’s hope of a win was soon looking very slim after James Ayres, needing 4 wickets to reach 50 for the season, had them 7-2. James Harris, Mark Swanick & Daniel Reeves then chipped in to have Kiddi 64-6. Just when Dorridge thought the winning line was in sight, a stand of 160 by Liam Weston (79) and Tom Kimberlin (93) made them think again: but Ali Ebad picked up Weston and Staniforth L and James Ayres bowled Kimberlin, before the Skipper took the final wicket. 240 all out. James Ayres finished the season with 49 wickets and Skipper Dave Ball, his usual opening attack partner, 51.
A great win to finish the season with, good job it didn’t end with last weeks thrashing !
